‘There are Magicians and there are magicians.’

Let’s look at the differences.

Being a close up magician is a discipline which takes a long time to master, a close up magician is highly trained professional.  He has spent years developing his skills and many more years gaining the experience and knowledge necessary to call himself a ‘professional’.

Of course anyone can buy a few cheap plastic tricks from a ‘magic’ shop, have a web site built, call themselves a ‘magician’ and start taking your money. Amateurs think a few tricks up your sleeve is all you need, a professional knows there’s a lot more to it than that.

I’m not saying that there aren’t some good hobbyist and club magicians out there who won’t do you a decent job for a reasonable price – but they are the exception rather than the rule. What I’m saying is that when you hire a professional and see him in action you’ll know where the money went.

In many respects hiring a magician to perform for you and your guests is a luxury purchase. My advice: if you can’t afford a professional, don’t hire at all – one bad experience with an amateur you’ll never hire again. For the good of your event, and for the good of my profession – seek out a professional.
